The worst part… the heartbreaking look on his face here is because of the things his father is saying to him.
Yes :( ‘I never loved Rumple’ ‘Can’t I be free of you?’ ‘Down boy’ ‘worm’ - just a few of the cruel, hateful things Pan said to/about his son in that last episode. Evil, twisted soul.
I did hear people suggesting that they might redeem Malcolm at the end or make his evildoing all the shadow’s fault and I’m soooooooo glad they didn’t do that, because the things he did are unforgivable and I didn’t want his villainy complicated by the idea that ‘oh, but he’s a good guy, really’. I think that would have taken the wind out of the story completely and made Malcolm too like his son in the end, which defeats the purpose of Rumple’s redemption arc.
Yes, these looks are heartbreaking, absolutely gut-wrenching, but what I find so profound about the whole Pan/Malcolm/Rumple story is that even though Pan abandoned, tortured, and tormented his own son, at the end of it all, Rumple was effectively able to say ‘Ok, I know you don’t care about me, but I care about you’, which is what that kiss symbolised. That’s one of the most beautiful sentiments that the show has ever expressed, imho.
Here, at the end of all things, is love…goodness, what sentiment, what nobility…so profound and beautiful. I love Rumple even more now.

Summary: Breakfast was a well oiled affair.
On the bus home from the cinema I started wondering why Neal didn’t go with Emma and Henry when clearly the SB!curse wouldn’t affect him. So this is them with alternate memories, all happy and together. My first Swanfire fic, quite exciting. Hope you enjoy!
#oh the irony #this is kind of prophetic #Rumple loves Belle #it made him strong #strong enough that he can kill his father even if it means killing himself #his love has killed him #but instead of being the terrible thing he makes it out to be here #when he’s thinking that belle’s love for him was what killed her #it’s a positive thing #he’s able to save everyone because of his love and his death #he’s full of love
